Harken Sponsor Sailor Nick Joyce Ahead of Mini Transat Solo Atlantic Race

Harken announce sponsorship for sailor Nick Joyce as he trains for the Mini Transat across the Atlantic in 2017!

About Nick Joyce

Having sailed since he was eight years old with his father on a 16" catamaran Nick quickly grew his love for the sea. Leaving school Nick went on to work in the super-yacht sector for five years before returning to Cowes to pursue his racing career.

Having raced and worked with some of the best teams in the world including Hugo Boss Sailing Team and Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, Nick's efforts are working towards eventually getting to the Vendee Globe, a non-stop solo around the world race, with the dream being to be the first British Sailor to win this relentless race.  The Mini Transat race will be a big step for Nick to hone his skills and help realise this ambition.

Why Harken?

"When I launched my campaign I was looking to work with the best technical partners to get my boat performing at 100%. Harken was an obvious choice for me, their experience designing products for the high performance market is unparalleled and the quality of their equipment is second to none. In an exciting prototype class like the 'Mini' it is also very useful to have access to Harken's technical support team to be able to discuss exciting new ideas for my boat." Nick Joyce

When asked about the sponsorship deal Harken commented, "Nick's achievements so far have been incredibly impressive. It is important we support young talented sailors to help inspire the next generation to achieve great things! Nick's Mini campaign and future Vendee ambitions are inspirational and we are delighted to help support this talented sailor with his future goals. Good luck Nick!"

The boat

Nick will be racing in the prototype fleet in his Mini 6.50 "Senor Blu", boat number 719. As with all Classe Mini's the boat must keep within strict rules. The boat can be no more than 6.5 m long and no more than 3 m wide. Senor Blu has a fantastic track record and is a full carbon prototype using some of the latest technology in performance yacht construction.
