The Ultimate in Mainsail Handling
Harken has added two new sizes–A and B– to its line of CB low-friction ball bearing mainsail handling traveler systems. Introduced in the Micro size last year, the system features free-rolling bearings and Hardkote-anodized one-piece aluminum cars to make it simple to hoist, drop and reef sails in any condition. The Captive Bearing System uses stainless steel wireguides to circulate balls smoothly and hold them captive when the car is off the track.
”We are pleased to be able to expand the CB design to larger systems in the Battcar line, which started in the Micro size last year” said Ken Lang, Harken engineer in charge of the project. “Now in three sizes, the captive ball feature makes it extremely easy for sailors to load and unload cars during installation and maintenance on many different sized keelboats.”
A dual car headboard shares the high leech loads during reefing. Luff cars are available in slider or ball bearing configurations. Drill-free tracks mount to most masts using a unique slug system that allows mast-up installation.
Use System A Battcars on boats from 34 to 48 ft (8 m to 15 m). Cars come with a 10 mm threaded stud that fits a variety of batten receptacles. Cars are removed from the track by freeing the screwpin endstop and sliding them off.
Use System B on boats from 45 to 60 ft (13.5 m to 18.5 m) Cars come with either 10 or 12 mm threaded studs that fit standard batten receptacles. To take off the mainsail, push the button, pull out the pin and remove the sail attachment.
